Plainfield
The town of Plainfield was once wilderness along White Lick Creek, occupied by the Native Americans. Some associate the area with Quakers, but they were not the first to settle here. To preserve some of its tradition, the Plainfield High School mascot is the “Quaker.” The U.S. 40, which bisects the town as Main Street, serves as the commercial center, offering quaint shops and eateries. Farming has long been a strong economical empire, producing such crops as corn, wheat, oats and soybeans. However, as more people moved to the area, Plainfield, along with Indianapolis, began to grow steadily.

Nearby Indianapolis prides itself on its rich cultural heritage. Several initiatives have been made by the government in recent years to increase the city’s appeal as a hub for the arts and culture. The Indianapolis Museum of Art, among the largest and oldest general art museums in the United States, boasts a permanent collection of more than 50,000 works of art that span the range and scope of art history. Venture out of Indianapolis to visit Connor Prairie, a 19th century living history museum and frontier village or visit a National Historic Landmark at the Oldfields-Lilly House and Gardens, a 26 acre estate of beautiful formal gardens.

Located in the heart of downtown, White River State Park is Indiana's only urban state park, boasting an awesome array of attractions. The Indianapolis Zoo, White River Gardens, Victory Field baseball park, IMAX Theater, Indiana State Museum, NCAA Hall of Champions & Headquarters, The Lawn performance venue, Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial, Military Park, McCormick’s Rock, Pedestrian Bridge, River Promenade, Pumphouse, Central Canal, pedal boat rentals, bike rentals, and restaurants at attractions are all located in White River State Park.

Diversity and steady expansion have long been the trademarks of the Indianapolis area, boasting strengths in the manufacturing, distribution, retail and service sectors. Economic diversity keeps the city on a steady growth, with redevelopment projects boosting the course. Plainfield offers the best in location, community values, economic growth and affordable housing found in the “Crossroads of America.”
